A lineup of 68 prestigious galleries has been announced by organizers of Photo London, a new fair that will take place at Somerset House from May 21–24.
Of the participating galleries, nearly 30 are from the UK, while 10 are from the US and 20 are from across mainland Europe. Remaining galleries are from other world cities including Bangalore, Moscow, Tokyo, and Sydney.
Fair director Michael Benson said in a statement: “We have been overwhelmed by the quality, range and sheer volume of exhibitors who have applied to be part of our first edition.”
Benson said the size of Somerset House dictated keeping the list to a certain number of exhibitors. “Our Curatorial Committee have had their work cut out,” he said. The roster of galleries “reflects the breadth and diversity of collectible photography today—from vintage work and contemporary masters to exciting new talent.”
According to a release from fair organizers, “strong exhibition themes can already be detected, including a focus on women behind the camera, museum-style monographic surveys, and previously unseen works.”
